Issues facing black men and women

Denigration of Black women in rap videos May 7, 2007

Lately, there has been so much news about the battle against rap music/ lyrics. Since the Don Imus incident, when he referred to the Rutgers female basketball athletes as “nappy headed hoes”. A lot of people have blamed Rap musicians to contributing to this negative portrayal of black women in videos. In most rap music videos the portrayal of women is very demeaning; the women wear almost nothing as the musician objectifies them. Even in the rap lyrics the words in which the women are described are words such as bitch, ass, nigger, it, thing. These words are degrading to women and shouldn’t be allowed. These words encourage people like Imus by reducing the value of women and influencing the younger generation to perceive women as such. No one is saying the musicians should be held responsible for Don Imus’ ignorant and racist comments but they play a vital role.

Recently, I watched the Oprah town meeting program. A lot of people commented that that some of the blame rests on the music industry particularly producers and executives. If the producers are able to restrict the content of musician’s lyrics then the root of the problem could be resolved. However, most musicians argue that this restriction would be a violation of their freedom of expression. Nevertheless, this so called freedom comes at an expense to the respect to women in the society. The abuse and disrespect of women must stop.

There are little boys calling girls bitches and asses. This is not what needs to be taught to our future generation. They need to be taught how to respect women. If we don’t we would have incidents like Don Imus happen again.

Please, we cry out to the music executives and musicians to not make an extra buck at the expense of the honor and pride of their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters.

I thank and commend you for posting this. We need to hear it and it’s so true. When will we stand up for ourselves and our self-respect?

Stop by my page and see my efforts to stop this foolishness.

    Greetings Shonda:

I’ve been approached by someone connected to something called osnbc radio to produce lyrics for a comedy skit that spoofs rap. I’m curious if you heard of them. Here is what I’ve submitted which I’ve included in my recent project, Boomers in the Home. I am a freelance writer in my spare time.

When you have a moment look these over and let me know what you think.

Am just curious if something like this could negate the pernicious effects conventional rap has on young minds that have no mentors.

    Thank you,
    Mike Riles

Why They Now Kill and be Killedl!

    Yo here be yo meat.
the way the bitches want it.
We treat you just like Masser,
    Worse than pig vomit.

I like to slap them down,
and stomp them on the ground
Treat them all like rat feces,
    like Sheriff Clark’s hounds.

    White liberals paid my momma,
for no stay at home man.
That’s why I now go act the fool,
    No daddy’s why I’m sad.

    Don’t need no Nobel Prize,
    or psychology degree.
    Menace to society
is what they’ll soon call me.

    Now I’m like a time-bomb,
    always ready to explode.
    treat women like bombing zones,
for me to drop my load.

I know I’m doomed to die alone,
    this B.S. game I play.
The way I treat all women,
    like red-neck KKK.

    But lately times are changing,
as the women go to school.
    They’d rather be with others.
    Not this disposable fool.

    Yeah I go gang-banging,
    to tear this country down.
    Hated and then hunted,
soon six feet under the ground.

    And when I demand money,
    from inside the victims bag.
    She’ll pull a lady Glock,
on my toe now hangs a tag.

    The Fool’s Rap.

    Turn on the news.
Yo I see it every day.
    The jackings and gang banging
    they never go away.

    Lost boys in their teens.
    Some are in their twenties.
    Stealing someone’s handgun
just to get a little money.

    The want ads are full,
    from IT to teachers.
These boys ain’t got no real men,
    not even a preacher.

So the women they spread em,
    and birth their little babies.
    They smack them—berate them,
    Ignore them—and hate them.

    Way to go feminists,
    white bourgeois bitches.
    No dad means a gangsta
    Hope nobody snitches.

    Suckered by white liberals,
    Our boys left all alone.
    The warden’s now their daddy
The big house now their home.

    Momma stuck it to God.
    And birthed an Al Capone.
    She get a check
    but I’m a wreck
    It’s time now to atone.

    That carrot on a stick
    That we got from LBJ.
    White growth industries
    From judges to DA’s.

    The women who birthed them,
The boys will grow to hate
A Glock in every woman’s purse,
    Will soon seal gangsta’s fates.

    A land once under God,
But now he is a cracker.
Keep the carrot on that stick,
More big bucks for future rappers.

This one deals with some of the really bad eating habits of black people.

    Meat Street

    Just grill it
    or fry it
I’m always there to bite it.
    Nitrates and the fat,
    I get so excited.

    The food police say
    That I better abstain!
But all that salt and then the sauce—
    they messing with my brain.

    Just pour on the fat,
    And slurp up that grease,
    Swallow that skin,
Hey it’s the land of the free.

And if I have a stroke,
And I’m up there on that tray,
The folks who make the big money
    will cough up Medicaid.

    Vegetables and grains,
Man I ain’t got that habit.
    I am a carnivore
    not a -$%$#@#$%$’ ing rabbit.

    Cereal and fruit,
No thanks I’ll take a pass.
    Will get like Fat Albert,
    Write Goodyear on my ass.

    I’ll eat what I like,
    hell screw the criticism.
    Healthcare here will go Marxist
    Cause we’ll need socialism.

Why They Don’t want my Ass.

    Yo—I can’t understand it.
They way they look at me—
    you’d think I was a bandit.
Like old Scarface or Jack the Ripper.
Yeah I treat all women like Ho’s and strippers.

She and her friends won’t hang in my circle.
    Damn she won’t “accept” me,
    would prefer a Steve Erkle.

Yeah I slap her, call her a bitch.
    She really got real freaky
when I joked about “that ditch”.

    They know who we are,
why we do what we do.
They used to want a bad ass,
    Now it’s no longer cool.

    But now they just laugh,
    And call me a fool.
With Obama I’m a laughing stock,
    He played by the rules.

    Finished his school,
    Then married Michelle.
What kinda a crap is that,
    like man—WHAT THE HELL!

    Colin Powell and JC Watts.
Condelesa Rice—put my ass on the spot.

    They’re making lady robots
    in a place called Japan.
    Hope the stuff is tough
so I can beat it like a man.

At least with a robot you can smack it all around.
Give it a kick, and stomp it to the ground.
    They won’t call the pigs,
and send me to the joint.
And no mo little G’s or AIDS
    when it gets boinked.

And when I’m old and about to die alone.

    Just me and my robot—
    when Satan calls me home.

    Thanks

Michael Riles—just trying to make a difference.
